Objectives:
The objectives of this workshop are to give an overview about BIM adoption in Dubai and to engage with public and private sector stakeholders and encourage them to either lead or support the efforts to improve digitalization in the construction industry, within the United Arab Emirates and across the wider region.
Target audience:
The workshop is aimed at senior public sector leaders and representatives of the private sector from within the construction industry.
Topics:
The first part of workshop will highlight the leadership role of Dubai Municipality and UAE buildingSMART chapter in BIM adoption in UAE.
The second part of workshop will highlight the key role that public sector owners/procurers play in enabling continuous digital transformation in construction industry. The presentation will provide international case studies and offer insights into the importance of:.
1. Aligning local efforts with international standards and engaging with standardizing bodies.
2. Encouraging interoperability and collaboration across to achieve it.
3. Learning from similar efforts and initiatives from across the world.
4. Conducting assessments for benchmarking, gap analysis and certification.
5. Building local communities of practice and connecting them to national and international ones.
Guest Speaker's profile:
Dr Bilal Succar is an independent researcher and an experienced international consultant in the fields of digital performance assessment and improvement. Dr Succar worked as a designer, site manager, trainer, and BIM specialist in the Middle East and Australia from 1992-2003. In 2004, Dr Succar established ChangeAgents AEC, an open-innovation consultancy operating out of Melbourne, Australia. In 2016, Dr Succar co-founded the not-for-profit BIMe Initiative, a Community of Research and Practice of more than 160 volunteers - esteemed professors, postgraduate students, and industry specialists - from 42 countries. The BIMe Initiative aims to accelerate the digital transformation of the built environment through process innovation and open knowledge-sharing. It investigates, develops, and delivers free-to-use, open-access tools, templates, and resources intended to benefit the informed practitioner, topic researcher, and policy maker. Balancing academic research with digital practice, Dr Succar has published several well-cited peer-reviewed articles, led high-impact national initiatives, and delivered topical keynote lectures and strategic workshops in 19 countries.
